Church Bell Fund

St Barnabas Church has a vibrant and enthusiastic band of bell ringers, with a much-deserved reputation as a flagship ringing centre in Essex. We currently have 2 practices a week, on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, and regularly ring for Services and at other village community events. Refer to our Bellringing page.
Two years ago we installed rope guides and replaced a life-expired bell wheel on our historic bells. The guides make the bells easier to control, increase bell ringers' safety and enhance the teaching of new ringers by restraining the distance that ropes can flap around, improving the experience for teachers and students and encouraging more people to learn to ring.
This has been so successful that the bells are being used more now than ever before and are starting to exhibit faults that need to be addressed. Two bells are slightly odd struck, which means that they ring unevenly, and the bell simulator system is reaching the end of its life. We want to upgrade the two odd struck bells and install an upgraded simulator, so that the bells can be used to teach students without sounding across the village, ensuring that this uniquely English craft can continue in years to come.
